Permanent Resident Visa applications

Two years after the issue of the first Resident Visa a person and/or family may apply for a Permanent Resident Visa (PRV) provided they have met certain conditions.

These conditions include:

• Time spent in NZ; or

• Tax residence status in NZ; or

• Investment in NZ; or

• Establishing a business in NZ; or

• Establishing a base in NZ (through employment or home ownership).

Qualifying and obtaining a PRV is the last leg of the migration journey before Citizenship. The PRV guarantees the holder of this visa residence for life in NZ (unless convicted of a crime or provided false information/documents in the original residence application).

PRV applications can be tricky particularly if family included in the original residence application are no longer together, applicants are offshore, people have not spent enough time in NZ, security checks, new character issues and so on.

Immigration NZ have moved PRV applications online. However just like any other visa application great care needs to be taken before hitting the submit button on a PRV application. Take advice to ensure this leg of your migration journey doesn't turn into disappointment.
