Why New Zealand is attractive to investors

Strong interest in New Zealand’s investor visa is driving fresh capital and global talent into the economy.

There has been strong overseas interest in the Active Investor Plus Visa (AIP) since visa requirements changed on 1 April 2025. That interest has converted into 189 AIP applications lodged as of 23 June 2025. Around 80% of the applicants intend to invest in Growth investments ($5 million) and 20% in Balanced investments ($10 million).

The 189 applications represent at least $1.145 billion that will be invested into the New Zealand economy. We can expect significant follow-on investment in other parts of the economy beyond just what is invested to secure a visa.

The top five nationalities applying for AIP are the USA, China, Hong Kong, Germany and Singapore.

We expect the numbers applying will continue growing due to a number of factors. Namely, geo-political instability around the globe is creating nervousness to drive people towards safer havens. Other countries have closed residence by investment programmes or have very long queues.
