NZ moves further to e-visas

New Zealand has moved further towards a completely electronic (e-visas) visa system.

Immigration New Zealand (INZ) stopped stamping passports with visas applied through electronic channels back in 2016. Now people who apply for entry to the country on paper are also receiving e-visas.

Whether a person is approved a temporary or residence visa it will now arrive via email as an “e-visa”. INZ say people travelling to New Zealand should print a copy of the e-visa and carry it with their passport.

Our tip would be to save a copy of the e-visa on your smart phone, tablet or laptop that you travel with just in case the paper visa gets lost.

When a passport is renewed or replaced INZ needs to be notified in order to update their database otherwise boarding a flight to New Zealand maybe refused or long delays experienced at the border.
